Alphonso Lewis has worked in the mental health/human services field for over 25 years with programs in Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, DC. His clinical experience includes working with clients aged 5 to 80 years old; providing counseling and therapeutic consulting services.
Alphonso’s dedication to his clients has seen him providing counseling services to a 14-year-old male residing in a level-5 clinical school in Orlando, Florida. This therapeutic alliance began in March 2001, and continued until March 2002, with Mr. Lewis making one-day trips to both Orlando and Birmingham in Alabama, twice each month.

In 1999, he visited Toronto, Canada for a presentation before an international assembly of mental health professionals at the 10th International Assembly of Clubhouses (day program providers). His presentation focused on the topic of providing integrated services to dual-diagnosed individuals.
He also trains other agencies on integrated treatment for clients with dual disorders and also conducts individual psychotherapy, marriage, and family therapy. Likewise, Alphonso trains police/clergy response teams in Washington, DC on grief counseling and crisis intervention. These teams respond to cases of homicide and provide services to survivors.
Mr. Lewis works as a consultant for various agencies located in Washington, DC, and Maryland. He has conducted training on such topics as:

Recognizing Signs and Symptoms of Physical and Sexual Abuse in Children
Acute/Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (ASD/PTSD)
Boundaries in Helping Relationships
Many of these took place while Mr. Lewis served as the director of a large mentoring agency located in the District of Columbia. He works with local school systems, conducting educational training to at-risk youths on the dangers of using drugs.
